My method of producing vocals is simple:
Record several great takes.
Keep the 6 best takes.
I then listen back to all the takes and chose the best parts to compile a solid final take.
I don’t only look for great pitch and rhythm, but also emotion, energy, and any magical moment's that will make the song better.
Once I am finished comping, I will send you a rough mix of the vocal comp.
If I feel there are lines/words/sections that need to be improved, I will send you notes and you can then send me another take with these changes.
INCLUDE THE TEMPO OF THE SONG WHEN NAMING THE STEMS.
EXPORT 6 VOCAL TAKES THAT ARE ALSO SNAPPED AND START AT THE SAME PLACE AS THE MUSICAL TRACK. BEAT 1 OF THE FIRST MEASURE. NOTE: EXPORT THE VOCAL TAKES WITHOUT ANY EFFECTS. NO REVERB, DELAY, COMPRESSORS...JUST THE RAW TRACKS.
PLEASE ALSO INCLUDE A LYRIC SHEET. BEFORE SENDING ME THE TRACKS:
-OPEN A BLANK SESSION IN YOUR DAW
-ENTER THE TEMPO OF SONG
-IMPORT THE MUSIC AND VOCAL STEMS
-EVERYTHING SHOULD LINE UP AND PLAY IN TEMPO.
